TOOL 6: The Perpetual Action Loop
I’ve found there are six primary ways to turn your strategic actions into game-changing routines. These powerful tactics will work together, or independently, to bring lasting change: to reinforce your Strategies and enforce your Anti-Strategies. And fulfill your life’s Vision and Mission.

But let’s first remember the 4-Point Action Loop: (1) Triggers lead to (2) Temptations lead to (3) Routines lead to (4) Rewards. And Rewards can repeat back to act like Triggers to encourage more positive actions, like a flywheel.
The more positive actions you can encourage, the more effective and efficient your life will become. Likewise, the more bad habits you can evict, the same will happen. So, we need to take a look at best practices. I highly recommend picking two or three of these for now.
- Habit Stacking: How can you combine the reward of The 4-Point Action Loop and make it a Trigger for the next Routine?
- Embracing Failure: Can I experiment with The 4-Point Action Loop and be fine with a 50% success rate without giving up?
- Building Keystone Habits: When significant habits stick, likely after 90 days, can I convert those keystone habits into a secondary trigger? Examples of keystone habits:
- Planning your day and week out on paper
- Reading at the same time daily
- Meditation or prayer daily
- Tracking your income and expenses
- Going to bed by 10:00 PM daily
- Consistently Moving Forward Compounds: Can I value consistency not because it is hard but because it is the easiest and the most life-giving?
- Accountability: Is there someone honest who can hold me accountable and ask me each day or week for a report of my progress?
- Iterating New Triggers and Loops: What other self-reinforcing loops can I experiment with to lift myself back up?
