TOOL 5: The Anti-Strategy

TOOL 5: The Anti-Strategy

It’s often more important to know what you should NOT do, like a bad habit or backward attitude, than to know what to do. So, as a baby step toward the idea of sacrifice and to help you clarify your Mission, Objectives, Vision, Values, and Strategy, I want to offer you their inversion: The Anti-Strategy. Stay out of this zone at all costs!

Rick-Walker-4 The Anti Strategy

Everything you do on a regular basis can be summarized into one of the below four classifications.

  1. To begin this process, you will want to think of your Vision, Mission, and Values first, then ask yourself:
    1. What are the 2 Anti-Activities, which if I sacrificed them, would help me get closer to becoming the man I exist to become, even if I didn’t do anything else?
    2. Objective: What is the 1 bad habit I know I need to stop doing but think it’s too tough to quit?
    3. Scope: Where am I spreading myself too thin? (which geography, which friends, which anti-values)
    4. Disadvantages: Where am I squandering my resources and position:
      1. Within my work or companies
      2. Within my nonprofit organizations
      3. Within my family
      4. Within my friendships
      5. Within my giftings?
    5. How am I creating a disadvantage for myself?

You will use this Anti-Strategy in tandem with the 4-Step Action Loop, so each quarter, you will introduce a new Action Loop or add onto an existing loop to tackle this new Anti-Strategy.

I’ve found this a helpful quarterly exercise, so I trust you to add it to your calendar right now for the last week of every December, March, June, and September. These will be your quarterly sacrifices, a ritual, and the results will compound.
