The 5 Questions the Tao Requires of You
There are five questions the below excerpt from the Tao Te Ching, Chapter 34, requires of you.
The great Tao flows unobstructed in every
direction.
All things rely on it to conceive and be born,
and it does not deny even the smallest of
creation.
When it has accomplished great wonders,
it does not claim them for itself.
It nourishes infinite worlds,
yet it doesn’t seek to master the smallest creature.
Since it is without wants and desires,
it can be considered humble.
All of creation seeks it for refuge
yet it does not seek to master or control.
Because it does not seek greatness;
it is able to accomplish truly great things.
With this in mind, I see five reflections arise:
- Was I built to accomplish something great, then lay no claim to it?
- What greatness am I seeking for myself, which is preventing me from accomplishing true relevance?
- Is there a vulnerable person who needs you to give them refuge from harm?
- What do I need to give up doing behind closed doors to become that man who can take on some responsibility outside them?
- What if you’re one decision away from redemption?
Your responses will either save you. Or damn you.
So reflect in silence and gratitude.
